EGAT issues new Energy Saving Label No. 5 for energy-using appliances in Thailand
On September 20, 2023, EGAT celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Demand Side Management (DSM) with the launch of the new No. 5 energy efficiency label to enhance energy conservation and specifically reduce emissions carbon, towards the country's Carbon Neutral goal.
The official usage of the new label will start on January 1, 2024 as follows:
- Increase of efficiency ratings from 1-3 stars to 1-5 stars to expand the options for high-efficient electrical equipment and save more energy
- Display of amount of CO2 reduction throughout the usage period so users can participate in global warming mitigation by choosing Label No. 5 electrical equipment
- Addition of eco-friendly production symbol (Circular Economy) to extend the function of Label No.5 from the buying decision process to the entire life cycle of the product
- Addition of QR code to share information to more consumers, such as product manual, installation, and maintenance, as well as other useful news and information.
Moreover, EGAT launched the Label No.5 School Project to encourage schools to integrate energy and environmental conservation knowledge into every activity by passing four activities, namely 1) Green School, 2) Low Carbon School, 3) Low Carbon School Community, and 4) No.5 Energy Efficiency Building in Educational Institutions. Currently, there are over 4 million students and 1,300 network schools under the Green Classroom Project.
